SELF DEFENCE for
Schools
Preparing Students for Independent Life
We work with secondary schools across Kent and London, teaching students aged 15-18 (Years 10-13) the practical skills they need as they transition to adulthood, including university, independent travel, and navigating social situations and the night time economy (age appropriate)
Why schools choose us
Our training goes beyond physical techniques. We teach students how to read situations before they escalate, trust their instincts, and respond confidently when their personal space is threatened. Most importantly, we help them step into their personal power - something that perhaps can't be taught through textbooks alone.
What makes our approach different
We're not a martial arts club teaching complicated moves that take years to master. We deliver practical, effective techniques in formats that work for your school - whether that's a full day, half day, or two-hour sessions. The techniques are simple and actually work when students need them, not just in a controlled training hall.
Many students have excellent academic skills but may lack the real-world awareness they'll need beyond school gates. We bridge that gap. We teach both young men and young women, tailoring our content to the specific challenges each group faces.
The transformation
Most students arrive with some self-doubt, even if they're good at hiding it. They leave empowered, with practical tools they can use immediately ,from handling unwanted attention, scenario based training to even staying safe during freshers' week.
We also teach the T-CUPS method (Thinking Correctly Under Pressure) - a framework we learned directly from Sir Clive Woodward, England's World Cup-winning rugby coach. This gives students a mental plan for various scenarios before they happen, so they can think clearly when it matters most.
Let's hear it for the boys! (as well)
Young men face their own unique challenges - from ego-driven conflicts they don't know how to exit, to pressure to "be a man" and never back down. We teach them that real strength isn't about fighting - it's about awareness, de-escalation, and knowing when to walk away. They learn practical self-protection skills alongside respect for boundaries and how to defuse situations before they escalate. Most importantly, they discover that protecting themselves and others doesn't mean proving anything to anyone.
Trusted by schools year after year
We've worked with the same schools for up to 7 years running. Headteachers bring us back because they see the impact - and because the "buzz" that builds through the school during training speaks for itself. Older students who've been through our training tell their younger peers and in a lot of cases younger siblings at the same school: "This actually works."
Principal Folkestone School For Girls
"The guys deliver this training with such warmth and kindness, that our girls leave feeling a little more confident and worldly wise in keeping themselves safe but not fearful of all men! That's a tough balance to deliver in a self-defence class but it's one of the main reasons we use Bob & Gareth every year. Feedback from our students is that it's really useful, makes them feel a little taller walking down the street - but also really enjoyable. Two very decent men showing the girls that most men are just that - and would cross the road to help you, not hurt you - and for the odd rotten apple, aim for the giblets! A pretty longstanding working relationship now with Folkestone School for Girls - and every plan to continue that. I'd wholeheartedly recommend"
P.E Teacher Ashford Independent School
Our students enjoyed a really informative workshop, with plenty of opportunity for practical participation. Essential skills, delivered in a fun way. I thoroughly recommend this course for all. Thank you.
P.E Teacher Mascalls Academy
80 of our girls across Year 10, 12 and 13 took part in sessions being delivered by Kent Self Defence Workshops this week.
The workshops were designed to help empower our female pupils, and provide them with the knowledge and skills required to get out of potentially uncomfortable or dangerous situations.
The sessions were informative, thought provoking and enjoyable for all involved, and even as a teacher there was a lot to take away from the day.
Thank you KSDW, we'll definitely be looking to deliver this again for many of our other pupils in the future.
